Creating an Effective Research Plan Workshop

I am excited to be a part of the Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society (MAGS) Spring Workshop this year. We will spend three hours discussing how to create an effective research plan, and then have time for hands-on practice where participants create a research plan for an ancestor they are working on. The planning method taught will include thinking through the research problem, creating a profile of your ancestor, analyzing documents collected, identifying resources available for the time and place, and creating a written plan to guide your research. I hope to see some of my local reader there!

The Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society (MAGS) will host a workshop and meeting on Friday and Saturday, March 20^th and 21^st, 2015.

Angela Packer McGhie will be leading participants in a “Creating an Effective Research Plan Workshop.” It will be held at the Holiday Inn – Laurel West on Friday, March 20^th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Efficient research takes planning and this workshop will highlight a process for focusing your research objectives and identifying sources most likely to answer your research question. The cost prior to March 10^th is $35 for members and $40 for non-members. After March 10^th the price increases by $5 for both categories. For registration, see http://www.magsgen.com.

On Saturday, March 21^st, MAGS is hosting their Spring Meeting, entitled “Bringing Your Family’s World to Life.” Rebecca Whitman Koford, CG, will be presenting four lectures designed to help you uncover your ancestors’ lives. Topics include cemetery and funeral home research, newspaper research, researching female ancestors and writing the family narrative. The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn – Laurel West. The cost prior to March 10^th is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. After March 10^th, the price increases by $5 for both categories. 2015 SCGS Webinar Schedule Announced

I was excited to get the press releases from the Southern California Genealogical Society regarding their 2015 webinar schedule. I have enjoyed their webinars in the past and appreciate that they are free to the public. There are some great speakers and topics in this lineup.
 

The Southern California Genealogical Society proudly announces plans for the 2015 Jamboree Extension Webinar Series. Since 2011, SCGS has offered twice-monthly webinars for genealogists and family historians around the globe.

The goal of the Webinar Series is to fulfill an important element of the Society’s Mission Statement: The Southern California Genealogical Society exists to foster interest in family history and genealogy, preserve genealogical materials, and provide instruction in accepted and effective research techniques.

What does it cost?
The live webcasts are open to the public free of charge. Please tell your cousins, fellow genealogical society members and others about our program. We'd love to have them join us.

When are they held?
SCGS webinars are held the first Saturday and third Wednesday of each month. They are held at hours that most people are not working: Saturday 10am Pacific time and Wednesday 6pm Pacific time.

You’ll see a list with all of the upcoming webinars and links to register. Click on the links to register for the live webcasts you want to attend. Fill out the registration information and you’re all set. You’ll get a confirmation email and will also get reminders before the webinar, as well as a link to a handout for every presentation.

On the day of the program, click the link that you received in those emails and you’ll be taken to GoToWebinar for your session. You can watch the webinars on your laptop or desktop, on your tablet or even your smartphone. If you don't have an internet connection, you can even dial in by phone and listen to the presentation.

What if I can’t watch the live webcast?
As a benefit of membership, SCGS members may view any of the 125 or so archived sessions any time, day or night, on the SCGS website. Webinars are posted online about two weeks after the webcast.
